But there will be enough about us in future posts. In this first post we will tell the story of wireless power and show how everything about it is changing.
What is Wireless Power
The idea is simple:
“The transmission of electrical energy without wires as a physical link”
One way or the other, all our electronic devices are wired.
Your TV — always wired. Your laptop — must be wired every few hours. Your phone — wired overnight.
Your smart door lock, doorbell, or camera? Getting better — you need to recharge the battery only every couple of months (how? connect a wire to it).
You don’t want to replace batteries? Wired. Want a camera that records 24/7? Wired.
Wired, wired, wired.
This is a problem of inconvenience, of intentionally restricted functionality, and of product classes that could exist but don’t.
Since Nikola Tesla’s first attempts in the 1890s, humanity has been trying to solve this problem. Let’s see where we are today.
Fixed-spot Wireless Power
In a way, wireless power already exists. Developed by the Wireless Power Consortium, the Qi standard is now everywhere. From low-end devices to Apple iPhones and high-end chargers in Tesla vehicles, thousands of devices are Qi certified and hundreds of millions are sold.
But what is this narrow, flexible-looking white thing at the top left there?
Yes, a wire.
These hundreds of millions of devices eliminate the need to connect a cable to your phone. You can now simply place your device on the pad.
But, only on the pad. Exactly on the pad. And you can’t really use your device since you can’t move it from the pad.
The point isn’t to downplay but to emphasize: hundreds of millions of devices are bought by satisfied customers, all for that small, qualified convenience.

Room-Scale Wireless Power Gets Everywhere
No wire makes this light glow and no battery helps it shine.
You can’t see the power source in this photo because we wanted to give you a good look, and it is all the way up in the ceiling. Not on the table under the bulb. Not below the table. Not inside the black receiver module. In the ceiling.

This light is different from all other lights. It is the only one that truly needs no wires.
This is Room-Scale Wireless Power. It is here, it works, it is coming to your home, office, and public spaces, and in future posts we will explore it and its way to ubiquity.
